Halloween Candy

I couldn’t believe what I saw today in the stores. Just walls and walls
of Halloween candy already on display! It’s still August, it’s still 90 plus degrees here in Annapolis, Maryland, and yet the stores are already gearing up for fall holidays. Summer time already goes by in a blink of an eye and now before I can finish enjoying my summer I have to start thinking about the end of October. Then with that, I am already thinking about the end of fall. Now, if you are anything like me and buy the candy today it’s NEVER going to be here in October. Also, just how many bags of miniature candy bars do I really need for trick or treaters? I must assume that if we are getting ready for Halloween this month, next month it will be Thanksgiving and then by October we will be getting ready for Christmas. For me it takes all the fun out of it when I start to see these things too early. I love when the stores start to decorate for Christmas, but I don’t like it in October. By December I am already sick of seeing everything and the magic is gone. Does that say something about us as a society? In the new world of instant gratification, are we not able to wait for things anymore? I want to stay in this moment – it’s summer, it’s warm, and the pools are still open. Boating, summer camp, lighting bugs, and it’s staying daylight longer. I am going to pretend that I didn’t see that gigantic display of Halloween candy and I’m going to enjoy what little summer I have left!
