In my last blog I talked about challenging you to do something outside your comfort zone. I did hear back from a few of you so I am happy you decided to challenge yourself. But the person I am most pleased with is my mom. She has no idea that I am writing a blog, to her that is just another thing that she isn’t to sure what it is. I have been trying to get her to challenge herself for as long as I can remember. She’s never been one to try new things or go out of her comfort zone. Maybe I’m writing this too early with Mother’s Day around the corner but I was just so proud of her this morning. When I spoke to her I felt I needed to talk about it today. I call my mom every day to see how she’s doing. She lives close to me but with my work, kids, sports and other activities we don’t see her that much. She won’t drive to my house anymore so if we want to see her we have to go to her house. Now if you have young kids you know it’s easier for someone to come to your house because the kids can do their own thing verses going to grandma’s house where there is nothing to do. Anyway I am getting off topic… I am proud of her because she’s gotten to where she doesn’t like to dive to far from her neighborhood and she doesn’t like to go to a lot of places by herself and half the time she doesn’t even want to leave her house. So forget about her going to two different places in one day. But this morning, I could hear the smile in her voice and I feel the happiness in her face and her excitement. She went out of her comfort zone to go get her hair cut and go the grocery store. For many of us that’s a normal day but for my mom it’s not and for that reason I am so proud of her and I wanted to share my story with you because I love my mother very much. She survived breast cancer last year and it wasn’t easy. Now that I am in my forties roles are changing between us and I look out for her more. Everyone call your mom or dad today and tell them you are proud of them!
That brings me to exciting news for next week. I will be publishing my first podcast. I will make sure you get all the details on where you can listen to it. I have the most amazing mom to help me kick it off. We have been friends for over five years and she has been a great friend to me and my family. She was there for me when my husband and I got separated and she never judged me or told me what I should do but she just listened at a time in my life when I just needed to talk. Her name is Rebecca and I asked her to write a little something about herself for the blog…
In her words –
I’m a professional mother who lives locally. I have lived in the area all my life. I’ve been lucky to be married 13 years to a wonderful man who allows me to be me!… and has done so from Day 1. We have two boys ages 7 and 9. The boys are warm, loving and of course energizer bunnies to say the least. I come from a “girl” family so having boys was a totally new experience for me. Whew….. overwhelmed, overworked and underpaid in the mommy department. Can’t wait to dish on “Mommy’s Guide to HH!”
And it’s only fitting that Rebecca’s #mommysdrinkofchoice is Chardonnay. She wanted to have it in memory of her beloved mother.
